VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
An important part of KODA’s mission is to actively educate the citizens of
the KODA service area about donation and to encourage individuals to join
the Donor Registry. KODA relies on the enthusiastic response from transplant
recipients, donor family members and those on the waiting list to help with
all of the requests that come from around the KODA service area.
KODA offers training throughout the year to those interested in learning the
facts about donation and transplantation, which is needed when staffing an
information booth or a Registry and Quilt Table. Trained volunteers are able
to not only accurately answer questions, but also share their personal story in
many instances. KODA introduced the “Donate Life Ambassador” program in 2010,
which provides training in a formal 2 hour setting. Participants who complete
the training receive a Donate Life Ambassador training manual and lapel pin, and
are continuously updated on new data and statistics.
Individuals who volunteers often join chapters of “Second Chance at Life” groups in their
area. Second Chance is a volunteers group of recipients, donor family members, individuals
awaiting a transplant, and others who promote organ and tissue donation and transplantation
through awareness activities throughout Kentucky. Some volunteers are part of the
Minority Outreach Committee, and help with events in the African American
and Hispanic communities.
The Second Chance @ Life chapter in Louisville has received approval for a new
“Donate Life” specialty plate. They must collect 900 applications in order for the
state to produce the plate. Click on the license plate to download an application.
