NATIONAL DONOR SABBATH WEEKEND

During the second weekend in November, National Donor Sabbath is celebrated
nationwide to bring together religious and transplant communities to raise
awareness of the urgent need for organ and tissue donors and to dispel myths
about the incompatibility of religion and donation. Currently, over 107,000
men, women and children are waiting for a life-saving organ transplant.

Every major religion in the United States supports organ and tissue donation
as one of the highest expressions of compassion and generosity. National Donor
Sabbath serves as an opportunity for religious leaders and congregations across
the country to create awareness about the “Gift of Life” through presentations
by donor families and transplant recipients, factual information in bulletin inserts
and newsletters, and special prayers for those who are waiting for a transplant,
those who have donated and those who have received.

Kentucky Organ Donor Affiliates (KODA) has available materials for congregations
during National Donor Sabbath Weekend. KODA has materials with biblical references
and passages that support the underlying act of giving of one’s self.
